The VersaWorks Backup add-on has two functions.

1. The printer registration and print queue settings configured in VersaWorks can be backed up automatically.

This makes it easy to restore VersaWorks settings if the PC suddenly becomes inoperable or if VersaWorks is reinstalled.

 

2. VersaWorks print settings and the original print data (source file) are automatically saved to the Roland DG Connect server when a job is printed from VersaWorks.
(Note: Saving the original print data is only available when outputting from VersaWorks 7. This feature is not supported when printing from VersaWorks 6.)
This enables you to reprint jobs using the same settings in case of issues during installation or production.


Additionally, when "VersaWorks Backup" is used together with the “VersaWorks 7 Remote” add-on, you can directly add data to the VersaWorks 7 queue folder from the Roland DG Connect website.

1. VersaWorks Settings Backup Feature

 

1-A How to back up VersaWorks setting file (automatic backup)

The latest VersaWorks setting file is automatically saved to the cloud database when the Roland DG Connect Hub is started. If VersaWorks is running, close it and restart the Roland DG Connect Hub.

1-B  How to manually back up VersaWorks setting data by Roland DG Connect Hub

1. If VersaWorks is running, close it. Open Roland DG Connect Hub and select the “VersaWorks” icon.

 

2. Enter a PC name to identify the PC to be backed up.

3. Click "Save Backup" to back up the VersaWorks setting data.

 

* Only the VersaWorks backup function can be disabled by unchecking the “Automatically save setting file when starting Connect Hub" checkbox.

 

Contents saved by VersaWorks Settings Backup

  • VersaWorks device registration information
  •  Queue print settings for each VersaWorks device
  • Job print settings for each VersaWorks device
    Note: If the location of the original data file of a job has been changed since it was backed up, the print settings of the job cannot be opened.

Requirements for backup

  • For VersaWorks 6: Roland DG Connect Hub must be version 2.3.0.2 or later.
  • For VersaWorks 7: Roland DG Connect Hub must be version 3.0.2 or later.
  • VersaWorks must be version 6.16.01 or later.
  • You must be signed up for the Roland DG Connect Hub.
  • Roland DG Connect Hub must be running and VersaWorks must not be running.

VersaWorks setting data backup Timing

  • When "Backup" is clicked manually.
  • Automatically backed up at PC startup (when Roland DG Connect Hub is started). 
      Note: VersaWorks must not be running.
  • Automatically backed up when 24 hours have passed since the last backup 
      Note: Roland DG Connect Hub must be running and VersaWorks must not be running.

 

How to restore VersaWorks setting data by Roland DG Connect Hub

1. If VersaWorks is running, close it. Open Roland DG Connect Hub and select the “VersaWorks” icon.

2. Click "Backup list" .

3. Select the data to be restored.

4. You can restore VersaWorks settings to the backed-up state by clicking "Restore!" button.

 

How to restore VersaWorks setting data by Roland DG Connect Web

1. Select "VersaWorks Backup" from the Roland DG Connect main menu.

2. Download and unzip the file to restore.

3. If VersaWorks is running, close it.

4. Select VersaWorks from the Windows Start menu and click "Initialize Application".

5. Click "Restore".

6. Select the downloaded file.

7. Clicking the “Restore” button will initiate the restore process.

Note: Any jobs added or print settings changed after the backup will be reset.

2. About VersaWorks Job Backup Feature

When a job is printed from VersaWorks, the VersaWorks print settings and the original print data (source file ) are automatically saved to the Roland DG Connect server.
Note: Saving the original print data is only available when printing from VersaWorks 7. This feature is not supported when printing from VersaWorks 6.
Additionally, by combining this with the “VersaWorks 7 Remote” add-on, you can directly add data to the VersaWorks 7 queue folder from the Roland DG Connect website.

About VersaWorks Job Backup Screen

1. Thumbnail of the backed-up print data
Note: If the source file was not backed up, the thumbnail will not be displayed.

2. Job name, last printed date, printer used, and printer nickname
Note: If no nickname is set, the printer model and serial number will be shown.

3. Button to delete backup data

4. Download icon for retrieving print job data
When you click the download icon, you can choose to download the print settings and the backed-up source print file.

5. Button to directly insert print data into the VersaWorks 7 queue folder
Note: This feature requires a separate purchase of the “VersaWorks 7 Remote” add-on.

How to restore a job setting file

1. From the VersaWorks Job screen on "VersaWorks Backup" add-on in the Roland DG Connect web , select and download the backup file.

2. Drag and drop the downloaded backup file into the print queue list in VersaWorks.

3. If the location of the original print data (source file) has not changed since the backup file was created, VersaWorks will automatically load and output the print data. If the location has changed, follow the instructions in the popup window to specify the new location of the print data.

Note: Print settings cannot be restored to a printer that is different from the one used when the job setting was backed up. Also, backup data cannot be used on an operating system (Windows or Mac) that differs from the one used during the backup.

 

How to restore a job setting file and the original print data (source file)

1. From the VersaWorks Job screen on "VersaWorks Backup" add-on in the Roland DG Connect web, select and download the job settings file and the original print data (source file).
2. Drag and drop the downloaded backup file into the print queue list in VersaWorks 7.

3. A screen will appear prompting you to select the location where the print data (source file) associated with the job settings is stored. By specifying the downloaded source file, you will be able to reprint the job.

Note: Print settings cannot be restored to a printer that is different from the one used when the job was backed up. Additionally, backup data cannot be used on an operating system (Windows or Mac) that differs from the one used during the backup.

Conditions required to back up original print data (source file)

  • Roland DG Connect Hub version 3.1.2.0 or later must be installed on the PC where VersaWorks 7 is running.
  • VersaWorks must be version 7.3.0 or later.
    Note: Job data backup is not supported in VersaWorks 6.
  •  Roland DG Connect Hub must be running when printing from VersaWorks.
  • You must be signed in to Roland DG Connect Hub.
  • The VersaWorks Job Backup storage limit must not have been reached.

Roland DG Connect Hub Settings for Data Acquisition

  • After purchasing the VersaWorks Backup feature, the following message will appear when launching Roland DG Connect Hub. Please select “Allow Backup” to enable backup.
