Media Inventory Management: How to use Media Inventory Management feature

Media Inventory Management

By enabling the Media Inventory Management feature, the printer automatically prints the media remaining length and mark on the media that is leftover after sheet cutting.

During media setup, the machine reads the mark automatically and recognizes the media remaining length and media setup information, which are then displayed on the panel.

The current media remaining length is subtracted from the displayed value as media is consumed for printing or paper feeding, and the remaining length after subtraction is recorded on the media when sheet cutting is performed.

* Media Inventory Management supported models: VG3-640/540, SG3-540/300 , XP-640, XG-640

* Media Inventory Management supported media: Transparent media and other media for which the sensor cannot read the remaining media ID mark are not supported.

To enable / disable the Media Inventory Management feature (Remaining Media Management menu):

1.  In order to use this feature, you first need to enable the menu.

After subscribed tap "Setup" on the printer panel to open the "Remaining Media Management" menu, and enable "Remaining Media Management."

When you subscribe to the Media Inventory Management Plan, the Remaining Media Management menu of the printer is automatically activated in the system and changes the way of the media setup.

2.  To set up the printer to print the remaining media mark when cutting a sheet.

After media setup, open the "Remaining Media Management" menu, and click the "Print setting for remaining media lenght during sheet cut".  And select how you would like to print the remainder mark.

(To use this function, the printer firmware must be upgraded to the following version or higher.

VG3,SG3 : Version 3.1 or higher, XP, XG in preparation)

 ● Sheet cut after printing media ID mark (Default)
Advantage: The media margin used when printing the Media ID mark can be minimized.

 ● Print medea ID mark after sheet cut

Advantage: You can start the next operation, such as laminating, after cutting the sheet without
waiting for the Media ID mark to be printed.

  2. Print job data from VersaWorks. The media remaining length will be subtracted as printing and paper feeding are performed.

  3. Perform sheet cutting from the panel. During sheet cutting, media ID mark that recognizes the remaining length of the media and the remaining length of the media will be automatically printed on the leftover media.

Steps to follow from reading the media ID mark on registered media to printing the media ID mark:

  1. Set the media in a way that the media ID mark is placed on the cutter protection. Always use the media clamp to determine the reading position of the media ID mark.

  4. When removing the media from the printer, perform sheet cutting from the panel. This will automatically print a media ID mark on the leftover media that recognizes the remaining length of the media, as well as the actual remaining length. Additionally, when printing the media ID mark, the data in Roland DG Connect will be updated.

In addition, it is now possible to select to print/not print a remainder mark when cutting a sheet from the following printer firmware versions.

(VG3,SG3 : Version 3.1 or higher, XP : Version 2.1 or higher, XG : Version 1.5 or higher)

How to use the same registered media in multiple printers (different printers) to manage remaining media:

When using the same registered media in multiple printers (VG3, SG3 series), the media preset name registered in the printer itself must be the same (all upper and lower case letters, spaces, and symbols must match).

As long as the media preset names match, it will be possible to read the remaining amount and media preset from the media remaining mark even if they are different models.
