Media Inventory Management: Overview of Media Inventory Management
Media Inventory Management
By simply setting up the media using this feature, the printer can automatically recognize and set up the media settings and media remaining length. Additionally, in Roland DG Connect, you can check the remaining media length for the media in stock and quickly identify the available media for the desired print length. Moreover, the printer automatically prints the media remaining length during sheet cutting, allowing you to visually check the remaining length on the media roll.
* Media Inventory Management supported models: VG3-640/540, SG3-540/300
* Media Inventory Management supported media: Transparent media and other media for which the sensor cannot read the remaining media ID mark are not supported.
The media inventory management feature solves the following concerns:
- I printed data about 5 m in length, but the actual media length was less than 5 m, causing the print to stop due to a media end error.
- I made a mistake in selecting the media preset settings during media setup, resulting in a decrease in print quality.
- I have a lot of media stock that is believed to have about 5 m remaining, but I can't use them because I don't know how much is left for each one.
With media length detection, it becomes possible to determine whether the media length is sufficient for the print data length before printing, allowing efficient use of media without waste.
Operation flow of Media Inventory Management feature:
- Register the initial media length and the preset being used for brand new media, and proceed with printing.
- After printing, perform sheet cutting. By doing so, the printer will print a media ID mark that is readable by the printer onto the media.
- During subsequent setups, the printer reads the media ID mark and automatically loads the media remaining length and the registered preset.
